The First Subject of ITTA: Intangible Cultural Heritage

On March 26, 2018, after the first forum of ITTA, directors from different countries march into Shengzhou Yue Opera Town-the birthplace of Yue Opera. Sitting under the Shijia’ao stage, they watched the folk performance of Yue Opera, a kind of influential local drama in China. The spotlight was put on folks who performed on the traditional stage, Yue opera lovers who performed on the stage just for fun also took pictures for them.

Shengzhou bamboo weaving, root carving and other local handicrafts in the courtyard of Yue Opera town arouse the interest of directors.


Shengzhou bamboo weaving dates back to Spring and Autumn Period(BC770—BC476), Mr Usmaan learns bamboo weaving on the scene.

The evening shows consists of Kungqu opera which is selected into the intangible cultural heritage list by the UNESCO, Xinchang Diaoqiang and Yue Opera of Zhejiang province, Liyuan opera brought by Liyuan Experimental Troupe “ No.1 Troupe” in Fujian province and Pansori performed by artists from South Korea which is also selected into the intangible cultural heritage list by the UNESCO. Directors watched with joy and excitement.

Directors from different countries said that they would like to recommend performances which are with rich cultural heritage, tradition, history and distinctive feature of its own country to Yue Opera Town, exploring the possibility of inheritance and innovation based on the exchange of traditional culture.
